System Information Center is a lightweight, affordable, asset management solution targeted for customers with 100 to 10,000 clients. This solution does not require a high level of IT expertise to get started.

The overall solution consists of two primary components:
- System Information Gatherer is an agent/probe which is responsible for collecting desired information from the client systems.
- The System Information Center is the centralized data repository for the collected data.
Note: The asset information in the repository can then be accessed by a Web console and other applications. The Web console lets you quickly and easily manage and view information collected by the probe.
System Information Center is an entry-level information management solution for customers looking for hardware and software inventory reporting capabilities for their Intel PC based assets. Systems Information Center is a competitive and cost-effective Web-based solution that:
- Features automated tracking of current PC inventory from a centralized location, which alleviates the need for manual tracking
- Enables IT administrator to easily mine and organize collected data into predefined or customized reports.
- Provides usage information relating to ThinkVantage Technology solutions to help predict support requirements.
- Allows a customer to report and measure compliance with select security policies across an organization.
The System Information Center program requires the Apache Tomcat Web Application Server version 4.1.30 zip file to be available on the server at installation time. Apache Tomcat v4.1.30 can be downloaded from
To install Tomcat v4.1.30:
- Create a directory on the server as C:\Tomcat4.
- Download and place the jakarta-tomcat-4.1.30.zip file in the C:\Tomcat4 directory.
- The installation program will unzip and install Tomcat during the installation of the System Information Center program.

System Information Gatherer is the client agent which collects the following information for both ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, and NetVista computers and other systems.
Note: Any machine on which System Information Gatherer is installed, or from which data is gathered, must have a separate System Information Gatherer Proof of Entitlement, which is the client authorization for this Program. All ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, and NetVista computers automatically include such an authorization. Your computer invoice constitutes your System Information Gatherer Proof of Entitlement for that system. System Information Gatherer for ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, and NetVista systems will function only on ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, and NetVista systems. The System Information Gatherer Program and Proofs of Entitlement for other systems may be purchased separately.
