RDM Linux clone fails due to larger than 2 GB file size - IBM System x
Source
RETAIN tip: H193808
Symptom
RDM 4.4x Clone Install (Put Donor, Linux Clone Install) task fails due to a file size limitation.
This occurs when there is a file larger than 2 GB exists on the source system.
The following error message may occur:
uextread: error 83 Error reading 5Gfile (10965520) Error processing directory bigfile Errors found [2008/05/22 15:14:58] <INF> Archive checked partition/rhelbigg4837ECA218.2 (rhel4big5G) [15:14:58] <NOT> Found radconf/rad-rhlbggrd8NHLMCJB.ini (rhel4big5G: Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (2.6.9-67.ELsmp)): not an archive [RAD:296] [15:14:58] <NOT> Found radconf/rad-rhlbggrdZZN5NABW.ini (rhel4big5G: Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS-up (2.6.9-67.EL)): not an archive [RAD:296] Stopping Rembo Agent |
Affected configurations
This tip is not hardware specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- IBM Remote Deployment Manager (RDM) 4.40, any version
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.
Please see the compatibility page for more information:
Solution
The next major release (TPM for OSD 7.1) will use a different cloning engine for Linux. Support is planned for larger than 4 GB files.
The target date is scheduled for Fourth Quarter 2008.
The file will be available from the IBM System x Support web site at the following URL:
Workaround
The best recommendation is to clone the operating system without these very large files and to copy the files using a different method after the operating system has been installed by RDM.
